Middle format self-portraits inspired by Renaissance female portraits, taken some years ago when somewhat obsessed with the perfect female body. Basically observing and capturing different people´s most beautiful body parts, making moulds of them in plaster and casting in latex. For the self-portraits I would wear these masks or prosthesis, representing a mixture of classical portrait and nude. I found it intriguing to be exposed, seemingly naked, whilst hiding behind other people’s skin creating a mixture between their and my features, being naked and clothed at the same time. It was especially important to me to adopt the postures that I had observed in traditional, formal portraits such as those by Goya or Ingres. My attention was drawn to the fact that although the paintings are by different painters, the limited range of postures were often similar giving the body language of the women cultural meaning.
